Tigers defeated Indianapolis Emmerich Manual on Nov. 27 64-50 advancing their record to 1-1.Fishers was the first team on Manuals season who did not allow them to score more than 80 points in a game.

“It was a really big win over a team like Manual who has put up 80 or more points against the teams they’ve competed against so far,” senior varsity basketball playerBrendan Russom said.

Junior Terry Hicks put the first points of the game up for Tigers making the score 2-0. Manual responded quickly with a big three to take the lead at 3-2. With less than five minutes left in the first quarter Tigers trailed at 7-6.

Russom got the last shot in for the Tigers in the first to put them up 13-12. Manual scored a buzzer beater to end the first quarter 14-13.

With 6:06 left in the first half Tigers went scoreless with Manual up 16-13. Senior Jeremy Szliagyi drew a foul from defender to score a shot, leaving the Tigers down one point as Manual led 18-17. Russom put the Tigers back on top at 19-18 with two made free throws. By the end of the half Fishers was up against Manual 30-27.

Junior Willie Jackson scored the first points of the second half, putting the Tigers up 32-27 against Manual. Tigers were able to keep the lead as the third quarter ended 47-37.

Manual was not able to do much in the fourth quarter as they only made one three-pointer with five minutes left in the game. Tigers were up 53-40.

Jackson got the two points and foul from a Mannual defender. With less than two minutes left in the game the Tigers were up 63-47. Fishers ended the game defeating Indianapolis Emmerich Manual 63-47.

Jackson, Hicks and Szliagyi all scored double digit points in the game. Hicks was the leader with over 25 points and 10 rebounds. The game was also the hundredth win for head coach Matt Moore in his career.

“This game was really good for our self-esteem,” Russom said. “After losing to Lawrence Central by over 30 points in our first game it was nice to come back like this.”

Tigers will play the Noblesville Millers next at home on Friday, Dec. 1. The complete game schedule is available on the high school’s athletic website.
