Frost Fest forges Fishers festivities

From reindeer to arts and crafts, the Frost Fest offered several activities to get the community involved in the holiday spirit. On Friday, Dec. 2, the Fishers Parks and Recreation Department hosted the second annual gathering at the Nickel Plate District Amphitheater.

“Fishers’ tree lighting ceremony has been taking place for many years. We titled the event ‘Frost Fest’ and added several new layers to the event just last year [2015], so under this new name and concept this is only our second year,” Director of Parks and Recreation Tony Elliot said.

Holiday radio station B105.7 played Christmas music throughout the event, and offered a photo booth for attendees to try out. The Fishers Public Library also set up a heated tent filled with games and activities for families to participate in while they awaited the arrival of Santa.

Musical duo Dave and Rae performed throughout the night, playing songs from “Uptown Funk” to “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.” Though Dave and Rae had never performed at Frost Fest prior to this year, they have appeared in the annual Tuesday Summer Concert Series held in July.

“We encourage all residents to attend this annual tradition and help us celebrate the holiday season. There were many tree lighting ceremonies on Friday, Dec. 2 this year, but Fishers’ version is tailored specifically for our community,” Elliot said.

Local businesses like Bubba’s 33 and Camp Bow Wow participated by carving ice sculptures and decorating the pine trees surrounding the amphitheater. Volunteers from the community also helped out, directing traffic and running craft booths.
