Lizzie Brown– Apple announced in early March that it’s new product, the Apple Watch will be released on April 24, 2015. Apple describes their new watch as their “most personal device yet,” and as having innovations in timekeeping, communication, and fitness.

According to Apple’s website, the Apple Watch is an incredibly precise timepiece that stays within 50 milliseconds of the definitive global time standard. The watch also comes with several different kinds of faces to choose from, such as color, solar, and Mickey Mouse. On the face of the watch, several different kinds of “complications,” as Apple calls them, like sunrises, stock quotes, and a daily activity tracker.

When it comes to communication, the Apple Watch has several features that allows a more genuine connection. The watches can send sketches, taps that the other person will feel on their wrist, and even a heartbeat. Animated and customizable emojis are a new feature that will be included and can be sent in between watches. Many of the same apps that are found on the iPhone will also be found on the Apple Watch. Apps such as messages, mail, and calendar will be present on the watch.

“I already have a phone that can send text messages and read my emails, so I don’t think I would really actually buy it,” sophomore Ashley Justice said.

Apple is putting emphasis on the fitness aspect of their newest piece of technology.

“The three rings of the Activity app show your daily progress and help motivate you to sit less, move more, and get some exercise,” Apple’s website says.

According to apple.com, the Activity app has three rings: the Move ring shows how many active calories have been burned, the Exercise ring shows how many minutes of brisk activity have been completed, and the Stand ring shows how often that person has been standing.

“I think it’s a cool idea but it’s expensive and then you have to charge it too, but if I was rich I would probably buy it,” Justice said.
