Reilly Sanderson– Student of the Month and CLAWS (Conducting Leadership Actions With Style) reward students for good behavior, but not many students know the difference between the two.

The main difference between the two is that Student of the Month is within the course of a month and CLAWS is over a smaller course of time. CLAWS is rewarded for a singular moment. Students can receive the title Student of the month for having good grades, adding depth to classroom discussions or for having a lot of excitement in a certain class. Students can receive CLAWS for a kind act, a creative idea or anything the teacher finds CLAWS worthy.

Since claws was introduced in 2007 there has been a significant change in the amount of referrals versus the amount of CLAWS distributed to students. Since the 2010-2011 school year the amount of CLAWS have been larger than the amount of referrals in the given year.

“Our goal from an administrative standpoint is have the good referrals outnumber the bad,” Assistant principal Ryan Taylor said.

Students who receive CLAWS receive a letter home to their parents and are entered into a drawing where they can win a prize pack. The prizes include an athletic event pass, concessions at the event, a free cookie, a t-shirt and a wristband.
